Ongoing Work

  • Serving as a liaison between the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources and the climbing community to ensure that climbing activities on state lands are done in a responsible fashion consistent with the states environmental and recreation management plans.

  • Assisting the Vermont Nongame and Natural Heritage Program in their ongoing efforts to protect the threatened and endangered species that thrive on and around our state's cliffs and climbing areas.

  • Building and strengthening our climbing community; encouraging climbers to enjoy and protect our states fantastic climbing resources.

  • Continuing to work with the state on Lake Willoughby Management Plan and Smugglers Notch Projects.

Accomplishments

  • Quarry Driveway Rebuilding Campaign (completed in August 2012)

  • Carcass Crag conserved (completed in 2010)

  • Established permanent protections on Lower West and Upper West Bolton Cliffs through a recreation and conservation easement donation to the Vermont Land Trust (2010)

  • Upper West Bolton conserved (completed in 2009)

  • Secured permanent access for rock climbing at the 82 Crag through our partnership with the Vermont Land Trust (2008)

  • Bolton Quarry Project - completed December 20, 2004

  • March 27, 2004 Everest Challenge: CRAG-VT hosts its first climbation. More than 70 climbers ascended a group total of 29,035 ft—the height of Mt. Everest—at Petra Cliffs and raised more than $8,500 towards the Quarry Project!

  • June 28th, 2003 Lower West Celebration Day: With the large number of motivated participants, we were able to construct rock bars to stabilize existing trails, brush out areas that need to revegetate, and construct a new trail to the top of the cliff (at the Harvest Moon end). A new sign was also installed which will soon contain information about the cliff and CRAG-VT.

  • Lower West Bolton Donation - completed May 21, 2003, grand opening and trail day June 28th

  • Secured permission to climb at Upper West

  • Provided input on Management Plan for Lake Willoughby Forest

  • Provided input on the Smugglers Notch Management Plan
