CRAG-VT Short FILM COMPETITION

Share Your Story on the Big Screen at the Vermont Climbing Festival

CRAG-VT is looking for the bold, funny, artistic, and passionate stories that define the Vermont climbing community.

Whether you are capturing a local climber chasing a project, a day of bouldering in the Notch, a cool VT climbing challenge, trail maintenance at the cliff, or an original story about Green Mountain schist, we want to see what you come up with!

A CRAG-VT review panel will select the top three films to screen live at the Vermont Climbing Festival in front of more than 300 climbers this September before the Saturday evening keynote. Winning submissions will also be featured on our YouTube channel and shared across our social media platforms.

Submission Guidelines

  • Length: Between 2 and 5 minutes, including credits.
  • Theme: Anything connected to Vermont climbing. We strongly encourage humor, creativity, original storytelling, and unique perspectives.
  • Format: Horizontal video only (16:9 aspect ratio). Vertical smartphone footage will not be accepted.
  • Video Quality Requirements: Your film needs to look crisp on a large outdoor projector. Please submit footage with a minimum resolution of 1080p (1920×1080), though 4K is preferred.
  • File Types: MP4 or MOV files.
  • Audio Quality: Audio should be clear and balanced without clipping or heavy distortion so speech and music translate well over the festival PA system.
  • Licensing: You must hold the rights to all music, sound, and archival footage used in your project.

Important Dates

  • Submission Deadline: September 16th, 2026
  • Winners Announced: September 18th, 2026
  • Festival Screening: September 26th, 2026 (at the Vermont Climbing Festival)

How to Submit

  1. Upload your video file to Google Drive, Vimeo, or Dropbox.
  2. Set the privacy settings so anyone with the link can view and download the file.
  3. Fill out our Submission Form with your contact details, film title, and download link.

Terms and Usage Rights

By submitting a video to the Vermont Short Film Competition, you grant CRAG VT a non-exclusive, perpetual, royalty-free license to stream, show, distribute, and share the video or clips of the video. This includes screenings at the Vermont Climbing Festival, hosting on the CRAG VT YouTube channel, and feature posts across CRAG VT social media and promotional materials. Submitting filmmakers retain full ownership and copyright of their work.
